New LISC awards will recognize efforts to transform neighborhoods
INDIANAPOLIS, January 3, 2017 — Individuals and groups that are transforming neighborhoods throughout central Indiana have a new way to be recognized for their efforts. LISC Indianapolis (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) is seeking entries for the inaugural Love Thy Neighborhood Awards, which will be presented April 27, 2017 in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the organization. LISC Indianapolis and Visit Indy are leading planning efforts for this new event.
Winning entries in five Love Thy Neighborhood Awards categories will each receive $5,000. Categories are livability, opportunity, vitality, education and the LOVE Award, a people’s choice selection.
“We want to showcase the people, projects and organizations that are transforming our neighborhoods into genuine, vibrant places to live and visit,” said Bill Taft, Executive Director, LISC Indianapolis. “There is so much great work going on throughout our communities and these new awards will recognize those who have made outstanding progress. Not only do we want to tell the stories, but we want to encourage even more people to get involved.”
An organization, individual, initiative or project in Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Morgan and Shelby counties may be nominated by a community member or may self-apply in one of these four categories:
- Livability: Creating healthy, active and beautiful places
- Opportunity: Fostering Entrepreneurship and Employment
- Vitality: Reviving a growing and diverse population
- Education: Offering excellent lifelong learning opportunities
Three finalists in each category will be selected and announced before the awards program, scheduled for April 27 at 5 p.m. at the Indiana War Memorial. The 12 finalists will be eligible for the LOVE Award, a people’s choice selection that will be made during real-time voting at the event.
Complete criteria and requirements for each awards category, as well as the nomination form, may be found at loveawards.liscindianapolis.org. Nominations will be accepted through January 31, 2017 for projects completed by December 31, 2016.
