Meet Rodric K. Reid: President, Alliance for Northeast Unification

Earlier this spring, Rodric K. Reid was hired as the President for the Alliance for Northeast Unification (ANU). We wanted to give you the chance to get to know him better and learn about the wonderful opportunities in the Northeast Corridor:

What is the project in your neighborhood you are most excited about?

There are many great things happening in our community to be excited about.  We are nearing capacity for our retail center which will host, in addition to the already opened Goodwill, Save a Lot and Dr. Tavel Eye Clinic- a barbershop, dental office and a pizza restaurant.   Our schools are enrolling more new families than ever before; and community residents are becoming healthier through the utilization of YMCA, WIC and Healthnet services.

My immediate desire is to redefine the narrative that has overshadowed this community for many years.  With all of the economic revitalization that has occurred here over the last 10 years, the Avondale Meadows community is a safe and enjoyable place to live.  The re-messaging and the re-building of relationships with this deserving community is what I am most excited about.  The last year has been challenging for UNEC without having resident leadership or staffing to meet the needs of the community.  We are grateful for their patience and are working tirelessly to reaffirm to our funders and community members that our priority is still to improve the quality of life for all people of this community.

How do you think the neighborhood will continue to improve over the next 5 – 10 years?

In the next 5 to 10 years, the UNEC community will truly be a community where all people can work, live, worship and find recreation.  Currently, we have a gap in the livability.  Potential residents and professionals who work in the area are forced to live outside our boundaries due to lack of housing that will accommodate their needs.  We are working to build community amenities that will cater to the needs of anyone who desires to live in this community.  We have already established top rated health and wellness facilities, educational systems, safe community and retail conveniences.  Housing for all economic and social classes will be our next focus.

What else do we need to know about the Northeast Corridor?

The Alliance for Northeast Unification (ANU) is a new organization that operates both the United Northeast Community Development Corporation and the Meadows Community Foundation.  As President, it is my hope to provide or partner resources that will allow community members to reach, maintain or live beyond the ability to be self-sufficient.   ANU aspires to be the voice for every person of the community who desires to live in a clean, safe, resourceful and inviting neighborhood.
