On June 8th, Source River West was able to participate in the IMPD SW District Community Day Collaboration. This year’s occasion was the 26th anniversary of the Indianapolis Police Department’s commitment to the Haughville neighborhood and the event was held in the Haughville Park. At the event participants enjoyed free food, a petting zoo, clowns, police department specialty vehicles, face painting, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Vendors, businesses, and organizations came prepared to hand out “freebies” and list of upcoming events to the members of the community as everyone enjoyed the fun of being together as a community.
This event helped Source RW physically reach out to the community and establish itself as a familiar friendly face among residents. Source was able to hear firsthand from members and business owners of the River West Community about their experiences, past and present. Source received great feedback from the members of the community about their mission, particularly older individuals that remember a once thriving Michigan Street. Source River West and the members of the Near West Communities are excited for the value that can be added to the redeveloping area.
