On Friday, November 21, 2014 over 300 community leaders and neighbors gathered at Kinney Group Headquarters on the Near West side to officially launch the Great Places 2020 initiative.
Great Places 2020 is a visionary community development project transforming strategic places in six Marion County neighborhoods into dynamic centers of culture, commerce and community, preparing Indianapolis for unprecedented success as we enter 2020. Each Great Place will be transformed through partnership, development and investment in: Livability, Opportunity, Vitality and Education.
Key partners have emerged that will contribute to the success of Great Places 2020, including Buckingham Foundation, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), and local business leader Jim Kinney from the Kinney Group.
“Buckingham Foundation is committed to investing in the vitality of Indianapolis neighborhoods. The Great Places 2020 initiative will transform and invigorate key communities throughout Indianapolis, creating positive change in the lives of our residents.” –Theresa Rhodes, Executive Director, Buckingham Foundation
As an early supporter of Great Places 2020, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) demonstrates its commitment to helping urban communities succeed.
Jim Kinney, owner of the Kinney Group, a growing tech company that has chosen the Near West side as its headquarters, illustrates the kind of grass-roots leadership and direct investment that we hope to encourage and grow in each Great Place.
The initial Great Places were announced:

Mid-North: 38th and Illinois
Near East: Washington and Oxford
