Bill Taft Shows Off The Platform

LISC’s own Executive Director Bill Taft recently sat down with the Indianapolis Business Journal to talk about—and show off—The Platform, LISC’s new home in the west wing of the historic Indianapolis City Market. The wing may have been destined for the wrecking ball until LISC came up with an innovative use: The Platform is a home to a number of organizations that work in community development, and an incubator space for social entrepreneurs. It’s also home of the Indianapolis Winter Farmer’s Market. The video is part of the IBJ’s “Leading Questions: Wisdom from the Corner Office” series. Take a look!

LISC celebrates 2015 work, highlights efforts in International Marketplace On Dec. 3, LISC Indianapolis gathered friends, partners and supporters to celebrate the 2015 work in connecting people and places of urban Indianapolis to opportunity. The holiday event highlighted the International Marketplace Coalition, a non-profit organization comprised of businesses, concerned citizens and community leaders who encourage economic growth and development on the northwest side of Indianapolis. The event took place at Jiallos African Caribbean Restaurant, in the International Marketplace neighborhood. City Celebrates Dedication of Central State Greens NFL Field

Central State Greens, a redevelopment project encompassing over 9 acres at the heart of the former Central State Hospital site, is made possible by a unique partnership between LISC Indianapolis, the City of Indianapolis, and Reverie Estates. Central State Hospital, created in 1827, once cared for nearly 3,000 patients on its 140 acre grounds. Funding cuts led to the hospital’s closure in 1994 and the site has been vacant and in deteriorating condition ever since. Obama’s Ivy Tech Visit Spotlights Community Development Partnerships

  It’s exciting to see President Obama celebrating the work of a great partner to LISC like Ivy Tech. The President’s highlighting of the impact that a community college can have on a community has been reflected in how Ivy Tech has been part of local comprehensive community development efforts. Southside Indy Begins Quality of Life Process

LISC, INHP, Fifth Third Bank, the City of Indianapolis and University of Indianapolis have partnered to bring a quality of life plan to the south side of the city. The focus area is bound by 1-65 and I-465 and Raymond and Meridian streets. Revitalization efforts will seek to decrease high rates of unemployment and poverty, reduce the amount of abandoned and vacant homes and storefronts, and spur community development and neighborhood engagement. LISC, the Colts and the NFL Foundation Partner to Create New Public Football Field

Indianapolis Parks Foundation (IPF) is the recipient of a $200,000 grant through Indianapolis LISC, the Colts and the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program, a partnership between National LISC and the NFL Foundation. The grant is part of a total of $2.5 million slated by city officials to refurbish public fields this year. The City of Indianapolis and IPF designated $1.5 million in funding to build a public athletic field at Historic Central Greens.
