Mission
Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Indianapolis is the local office of a national organization that helps resident-led, community-based development organizations transform distressed communities and neighborhoods into healthy ones -- good places to live, do business, work and raise families. By providing capital, technical expertise, training and information, LISC supports the development of local leadership and the creation of affordable housing, commercial, industrial and community facilities, businesses and jobs. We help neighbors build communities.
Based on our 2011-2013 Strategic Plan, Indianapolis LISC is guided by these three mission outcomes:
- Residents of core neighborhoods participate fully in the regional economy. We want to make sure residents of LISC Sustainable Communities have the skills and support they need to support themselves in jobs and other activities based on opportunties available in Indiana.
- Core neighborhoods are attractive places to live, work, learn and play. This requires a comprehensive approach to community development: not just improving housing, but also paying attention to community needs in education, safety, health, business, and other factors that make neighborhoods sustainable.
- Core neighborhoods are integrated into the regional economy. Sustainable communities should not only be places for people to live. They should also be places that connect with our region as a whole--with excellent transportation options and businesses and events that give people who live outside the neighborhood good reason to visit.
All of our activities are geared toward accomplishing these outcomes.
