Improving Access To Quality Education
Quality education is important to neighborhood revitalization. At LISC, we believe that all students should have access to great educational resources regardless of where they live. LISC continues to invest in efforts throughout the city to improve educational opportunities for Indianapolis students.LISC supports programs that support learning and educational improvement in several public schools around Indianapolis; for example, we sponsored a service-learning initiative at Skiles Test Elementary School in Binford Area Redevelopment and a creative writing program for Indianapolis Public School children called The Second Story.
We also support the creation and development of facilities for charter schools around the city. In April 2005, The City of Indianapolis and LISC announced the creation of the Indianapolis Charter Schools Facilities Fund, the nation's first city-developed, comprehensive charter school facility financing program. Indianapolis has been a national leader in charter schools, and LISC has been an important partner.
LISC can provide recoverable grants, technical assistance, and other services to organizations looking to help improve educational opportunities for our students.
