Great Families 2020 Final Grants Awarded
Last month, United Way of Central Indiana awarded $2,775,000 in grants to four local organizations as part of Great Families 2020, the initiative designed to transform the lives of Indianapolis’ most vulnerable families in neighborhoods with the most need. Great Families 2020 is modeled from the promising practice of the “Two Generation” approach, where neighborhood networks in education, financial stability and health services are integrated to serve the whole family. The winners for this round of Great Families 2020 submitted innovative proposals that aim to improve family outcomes in kindergarten readiness, mental health, employment and financial literacy grants:
- Community Alliance of the Far Eastside ($1,050,000: $350,000 per year for 3 years)
- Hawthorne Social Service Association ($750,000: $250,000 per year for 3 years)
- Marion County Commission on Youth ($300,000: $100,000 per year for 3 years)
Martin Luther King Community Center ($675,000: $225,000 per year for 3 years)
These organizations will join awardees named in February — John Boner Neighborhood Centers, Englewood Christian Church, East Tenth Children and Youth Center, and Edna Martin Christian Center — to serve 600 families across Indianapolis.
