Great Places 2020 Partner Focus: Indy Chamber

The Indy Chamber represents nearly 2,000 companies across the Indianapolis metropolitan region; the group recognizes that great places to live are also great places to invest and grow.  The Chamber leads a variety of efforts to expand economic opportunity for the residents of the Great Places 2020 neighborhoods.

The Indy Chamber’s Entrepreneur Services team provides free, one-on-one business coaching to new and growing employers across the city.  In the River West neighborhood, a dedicated Chamber business coach provides expert advice, access to microlending and other services to local entrepreneurs who see the potential in this up-and-coming area across the White River from IUPUI and 16 Tech.

The Indy Chamber has also led the successful campaign for improved mass transit in Indianapolis.  With the implementation of the Chamber-backed Marion County Transit Plan, all of the Great Places will see more frequent, convenient transit options to connect residents to employment, education and other daily necessities.  Maple Crossing will lie at the intersection of two bus rapid transit (BRT) routes; BRT lines will also run through Englewood Village and River West – new service that will help spur commercial investment and redevelopment in nearby neighborhoods.

The Chamber’s advocacy agenda also emphasizes redevelopment, supporting historic preservation programs at brownfield incentives that could be particularly impactful as the Twin Aire Great Place works towards productive reuse of the properties surrounding the former Citizens Energy Group facility slated as the site of the planned Marion County criminal justice center.

By supporting local business growth, attracting new companies to the region, pushing forward-looking public policies on infrastructure, urban development, education, workforce training and more, the Indy Chamber is working to give the people and employers of our Great Places the tools to build thriving business communities and stronger neighborhoods.  Learn more at www.IndyChamber.com.
